What's wrong with being a "core gamer"? I've been one all my life!

Defiance natively supported true cross-platform play. Shame that at least one of the console manfacturers (hmm, I wonder which?) refused to play ball.

Review reads like an 8 to me, and gets Editor's Choice award. I haven't played TLOU so can't really comment yet...

I worry that Dyack is just too toxic for this to succeed - even if he doesn't deserve some of the flack. Might he be better off publically distancing himself from the game, but then consulting/freelancing during development on a purely creative level?

Was Microsoft's 'target' audience even watching? I can't imagine frat boys and families deciding to sit in front of a livestream at 10 in the morning US time, or hearing about the reveal from a gaming site they follow religiously. I'm sure the mainstream press are putting out some good stuff, and I'd like to believe that creating an ecosystem could make this a success, but I felt incredibly alienated by that entire hour.

"Xbox, go home" until...

From the article: "We assume that the PC version will pack similar enhancements (since the live code we were shown was running on a PC emulating PS4 hardware), but in terms of the console versions, we can expect a significant upgrade."

It's great to see next-gen consoles offering more than just shiny graphics, but I'd probably look to get the PC version.

Agreed. Rumours can be really fun to theorise about and make for great talking points, but should always be treated with suspicion (if not full-on contempt in some cases).

More to the point, though, the sites that jumped on this bandwagon should have done some research themselves and traced the logo back to its source IMO.

Erm, what? Different sites have different scoring criteria. I like SS a lot (especially online, it's awesome), but depending on how you look at it, there are all sorts of annoying issues that some outlets will need to ding.

EDIT: EDGE prioritise empirical quality and polish over 'fun-ness' or cool concepts AFAIK. That's not what I always look for, but it's just a number. Always great to see different opinions out there.

It's not an 8 yet IMO, but it could be once Trion sorts out some of the remaining bugs and adds a more interesting metagame.

@DragonKnight - absolutely agreed. Nintendo Direct is great, but only established Nintendo fans and people who follow gaming news daily will ever watch it. Ninty needs to seriously up their publicity, both in the industry and in the public eye, if they want to get people talking about the Wii U.

Why couldn't they do an E3 presser *and* hold smaller events afterwards?

I think it's a great idea - makes the game feel like Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and lets new players get into the franchise. Much prefer Classic myself, mind, since death is one of the biggest USPs of the franchise.

That said, I wish it also had an Iron Man mode like XCOM, perhaps one that over-writes autosaves as soon as a character dies. No more quitting and reloading every single level!

I think they'd be mad to announce release date and pricing now. It'd give Sony and even Nintendo chance to undercut them or offer more features.pack-ins, or tweak their marketing campaigns.

They will probably show us what it looks like, though. I don't mind that Sony didn't show the PS4, but it does mean that we don't have something specific to think about when we hear "PlayStation 4," instead we just have a jumble of buzzwords.

Battlefield's multiplayer is superior all day long, but I wish they'd stop putting in a terrible campaign. Come on, release it as MP only, at a cheaper price - I bet loads of people would prefer to buy that rather than silly RRPs for the next Call Of Duty (I do like the series, but am starting to get slightly bored of the Infinity Ward-developed titles). Or at least give us a Bad Company campaign instead of the boring seen-it-all-before ratstabbing nonsense.

Easily GOTY 2013 for me thus far, and I primarily play on PC and consoles. Unfortgettable characters, thought provoking storyline, infinite replayability, freeform dynamic narrative with real consequences for death, that AMAZING support/marriage/S Rank system... sorry Infinite, but you don't even come close.

Also, it's even in the free game promotion. Such a result. As someone said above, I hope that critics give this the proper respect it deserves when considering GO...

This is from the FAQ:

"Game registrations are retroactive; any eligible game registered with Club Nintendo before the promotion was announced, including Download Versions, counts towards the three purchases required to claim a free download code."

EDIT: CONFIRMED, See post below.

Yeah it counts for games you've already registered. :)

So up for this. Already have two of these games, so free Animal Crossing is within my grasp...

You're welcome, Shigesato! Time to delete some ROMs, finally...

A 3DS version would be nice, though, but it's enough that Nintendo are finally making this happen.

I don't think it's worth reviewing an MMO so soon after launch. Not only is it getting patched all the time, but how can we possibly gauge long-term appeal yet?

Site's taking a pounding, can't even get onto Gamespot itself atm, let alone the stream.

Erm, why?

I don't understand the logic here. To address a couple of points: adapting XCOM to iOS isn't somehow going to magically divert resources away from the completely separate teams working on patches/DLC content AFAIK, and instead will actively contribute to the war chest for future expansions.

Opening games up to a wider audience has historically never been a bad thing, and in this case, it makes sense. The point about controls is a total non-issue: touchscreens work bri...
